Maintaining some sort of historical data on performance criteria is important. This allows users to check issues versus any occurrences, changes done to the equipment or software, even season of the year. In our experience, however, it was not useful to set up Shewhart or other control charts to monitor this, as usually the observed changes and shifts were still within the performance criteria specified by the manufacturer and/or external sources like ASTM (i.e., there is no "knob" to turn to change the output). If the difference between instruments, each performing within specifications, is important, then some sort of bias correction should be implemented.
