What are some tips for improving grammar and punctuation skills?

Reading more helps you get better at grammar and punctuation. When you read, pay attention to how sentences and punctuation are used. Different kinds of reading materials, like books or blogs, offer varied styles to learn from. Take note of how writers structure their sentences and organize paragraphs. This observation can inspire your own writing. Also, understanding transitions and punctuation rules becomes easier through reading.

Expand your intellectual horizons in order to improve your grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation skills when writing. This means engaging yourself with reading elaborate studies or articles that interest you and not just “reading” but actually comprehending. Research the definition of terms you are not familiar with and confirm how to properly use such words accurately in sentencing.

Grammar, punctuation, spelling and sentence structure have always come naturally to me. The English language is a topic I am proficient in.

This is good advice. It's natural to confuse or forget some of the information we learned in school - after all, for most people, it's been years since we were reminded! Every individual has their own style as well, but what you really need to know in any position, is THEIR style guide. Each publication has their own style too, and what might be acceptable to one could be disastrous for another.

One thing that really opened my eyes about how much "proper" grammar I had forgotten was after I became an EFL teacher. In daily conversations, people don't usually use 100% accurate grammar, especially verb tenses, and I was starkly reminded of how much more my students knew than me ?? In order to better help them, I had to reteach myself all the basics. Maybe being a teacher won't be the catalyst for your studying, but I'd think about how improving yourself can lead to helping others, and that really helped with my motivation to review.

Of course, the best way to learn is to apply the lessons you've learned. Writing regularly does not only help you remember grammar and punctuation; you can also find your own style and voice. Having a journal or diary can motivate you to write on a daily basis. You can also write social media captions or blogs to practice. Most of all, posting on LinkedIn and participating in contributions like this is a nice way to broadcast your writing skills to the professional world.

Depending on what you're writing for, writing might just feel like a business transaction to you. But it doesn't always have to be that way! Even if you're writing something serious, I find that it helps to add just a sprinkle of my own character/voice, so that I don't just sound like I'm being forced to write something. If you're someone who uses hypotheticals in conversation, why not add one to your paper? People who know you will appreciate the little Easter egg, and those who don't will be pulled in by the mysterious question anyway :)
