Agreed, the process of learning to write normally follows a curve of copying, remixing a style with other styles, and then expanding upon and developing your style. Reading and watching how prominent figures in your field convey their ideas, leaves hints to what works and doesn't. One of my favourite tricks is to look at the history of work that a prominent figure has done over time, isolate the work's relevancy and see what did and didn't do well. The bodies of work that did well, most likely shaped how they approached future works and would be something worth mimicking in the beginning as you develop your skills.

The writing style and skills I currently hold were developed from working with my Personal Knowledge Management (PKM) System. Seeing my network of ideas grow over time is extremely satisfying. I would also recommend creating a PKM, pick a topic or field of interest and just start exploring. Read wide, copy and drill down on ideas to find the root whys of a topic.
