To practice critical thinking, you can use frameworks such as the Socratic method, the Five Whys, or the Six Thinking Hats, which help you to examine different perspectives, ask probing questions, and test hypotheses.

I like to approach it in a simpler way: ALWAYS understand the system first. You can only propose changes to a system once you understand how it works. Equally important is actually putting yourself through the drill so you can gather knowledge on the processes, the steps, the roadblocks and the requirements for a successful transaction.

2 Learn from data

Data is a powerful source of insights, but only if you know how to collect, analyze, and interpret it correctly. As a Business Architect, you need to be proficient in data literacy, which is the ability to understand, communicate, and use data effectively. To learn from data, you can use tools such as spreadsheets, dashboards, or data visualization software, which help you to organize, manipulate, and present data in meaningful ways. You can also use techniques such as descriptive, inferential, or predictive analytics, which help you to summarize, infer, or forecast trends, patterns, or relationships from data.

Be ready to explore. You may have a lot of data and Excel may or may not be the best tool. It may seem daunting but pay attention to any potential relationships. You may not know ML, but if you can try plotting relationships using a scatter plot, do that. The concept of ML is that you may not get an answer in 2D, but might in 3D. If you're bound by simple linear dimensions, then be ready to explore, tinker with the numbers, and experiment. I personally prefer Excel. Not the best tool for some things, but an excellent tool for many things. You can't use ML in Excel, so you have to think slightly out of the box when exploring relationships.

Remember, your audience must understand the message. If your trusted colleague doesn't understand, then rethink. Being able to communicate effectively is very important.
