What are some strategies for building a successful partnership with a partner from a different generation?

The idea that the younger generation don't have experience in what the older generation have, but what they have are new and fresh perspectives on the age in which both are living. Respect is crucial Respect is understanding the needs of each Respect that sharing knowledge and cultures will tighten bonds of giving and taking and learning

Let's hope that each generation can communicate with the other. Each having their own perspectives from their personal and working lives. So what is best for each to do Don't stand in authority and emotionally or mentally dominate the next cohort of younger workers, or feel 'an entitlement'. Everything has to be earned and respect gained. An opportunity to show how maturity and experience can be used in an effective and generous way. By setting examples of how the more experienced are prepared to take the time to listen and show that they are listening will encourage the next generation to learn from example and reciprocate. We can bridge the gap of generational working - humour will help, sharing knowledge with generosity.

It's hard to adapt and compromise, well that can be a struggle BUT in the same working environment each person working there has been offered an opportunity to be a part of something that will be of benefit. The passing on of knowledge and experience from different perspectives. The older generation has been through much and has had to learn to adapt and compromise continually and with that hopefully patience, understanding of what it took for them to get to where they are. These are valuable tools and must not be discarded. The new younger generation creates verve, excitement and another understanding of the new world, bringing with them much needed energy. Both are needed, necessary and equally important

My experience has shown me that everyone can bring advantages to shared objectives. Age has no limits to offering the opportunity to learn and teach. Asking well qualified open ended questions and then listen to their response will give you insights that you may have never had. Appreciate each team members perspective and be willing to share yours whether it’s supportive or contradictory. The power of two is always better than the effort of one.
