Actually, for me it's very important to know my partners purpose, and find the way our purposes will meet, and I relate to this in the conversation.

Be open-minded to different perspectives and be willing to consider alternative viewpoints. Second, listen with intention paying close attention to the speaker and demonstrating genuine interest. 3rd, ask for feedback to ensure your message is being understood correctly. Encourage others to ask questions and provide clarification when needed. Be open to receiving feedback and address any misunderstandings promptly. Last, be flexible. Adapt your communication style to suit the needs of different individuals and situations. Pay attention to cultural differences, communication preferences, and adjust your approach accordingly.

Know your purpose but also understand your audience's need and how they like their comms as well. As you could have the best comms and be the most concise but the audience might not like it because that is not how they like their comms. So think about your target audience as well and not just your own purpose.

One thing I have found helpful is clearly outlining what is to achieved. In the event its not fulfilled you can always go back to the conversation.

Listen carefully to understand, rather than listening to respond and listen carefully again to make sure your listener is responding in a way that demonstrates they heard what you intended them to hear when you delivered your message.

When making what you have to say is both clear and concise, it's important to not to talk too fast or too slow. If too fast, the recipient may not understand even though you have ensured not to use complex jargon or slang. If too slow, you might insult their intelligence - they might take your clear, concise and slow approach as offensive and think you are belittling them. So, it is important to speak at an appropriate speed.

Structuring your delivery is the most important part. Remember, your message has to be passed or else its a miscommunication.

How many times have we been guilty of only half listening when another person is speaking because we are already thinking about what we want to say? Communication is a two way street, and people know when we are not really actively listening. It is key for people to feel seen and (quite literally) heard. If we are actively speaking but only passively listening, we are doing not only others but ourselves a disservice.

Active listening is like getting feedback, thinking on it then giving a response. Listen, dont hear. Learn the difference. Avoid reacting to everything that is said.

An example of this is area of mutual interest ice-breakers. Its important to also note that not at all times will you use ice breakers. Be aware of your audience. Read the room.

The Platinum Rule resonates with me: treating others as they want to be treated. By observing reactions and reflecting on my own effectiveness, I strive for mutual understanding. What works for me is to consciously choose to know/understand/recall the rules to the relationship in which I find myself. Knowing the rules (how the other person learns, receives information/feedback, listens) supports me in authentically shifting my verbal and non-verbal communication styles resulting in naturally mirroring back to the speaker language/behavior that is familiar. Familiarity breeds ease and aligns with the law of flow.

Nonverbal cues are really important. I have a very serious face and people can easily misinterpret what I am feeling because of that. It can be hard for me, but I try to remember to smile more when I am speaking. Smiling sends a very positive nonverbal message to your audience. Aside from that, it is important to make eye contact when speaking with someone, and to be cognizant of body language. Having your arms crossed or leaning away from someone sends a negative message, whereas having a relaxed and more open posture sends a positive one. It is also important to be aware of your tone and to try to speak calmly, particularly if you are dealing with any sort of conflict.

I always believe that without non-verbal cues, we would be sleeping off to speeches! Again, too much of anything is dangerous, non-verbal cues should drive your point home, not astray.
