Six Sigma employs a variety of tools and techniques to collect, analyze, and improve data, depending on the stage and objective of the DMAIC cycle. For instance, Voice of the Customer (VOC) is used to capture and prioritize customer needs and expectations with surveys, interviews, focus groups, or other sources. Additionally, SIPOC (Suppliers, Inputs, Process, Outputs, and Customers) diagrams summarize the inputs and outputs of a process, along with the suppliers, customers, and stakeholders involved. Pareto Charts are bar charts that present the frequency or impact of different causes or factors in descending order to identify the most significant sources of variation or defects. Fishbone Diagrams (or cause-and-effect diagrams/Ishikawa diagrams) are graphical tools that help to identify root causes of a problem. Control Charts monitor the variation of a process over time by using upper and lower control limits and a center line. Lastly, FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) evaluates potential failure modes and effects by assigning a risk priority number (RPN).
