Well, most frameworks mentioned below are JavaScript based anyway (hence the .js in their names - duh!), so whichever of those you use, you'll be using JS. And though JS is currently the only language that runs in web browsers (apart from WebAssembly, which I hope will mature to something really good some day - if ever), JS really isn't the best language for server side. There are much faster, safer and better structured languages available (like Java, Go etc. - heck, even good ol'e C++). Though it's cool if the same code *can* run both on client and server, it doesn't mean it really *should*. Mixing client and server-side code can cause weird side/effects and hard-to-find problems.

Node.js can handle high concurrency and real-time data? Really? Node.js is intrinsically *single threaded* - meaning it can do *one* thing at a time. True, it's using asynchronous callbacks that gives an impression of concurrency, but if just a single sloppy-written callback method doesn't return quickly, the whole server will hang, waiting for that method. Well, it *is* possible to use multiple threads with Node, but it's awkward, pretty much resolves to hacking and defeats all purpose of its simple-to-use paradigm. So, yes - you can use Node for payment systems (just not too busy ones, I'd expect), but for real-time processing? No way.

Innovative or not, there are far more frameworks that use different payment systems than listed here. How the payments and confirmations are handled can be either user-blocking or non-user-blocking. More common and the correct way would be to use non-user-blocking. These are usually handled using background services/workers, where the service would send confirmation to a custom endpoint which you will have to design in a way that starts a number of processes necessary to change the shopping cart into a new status. Keep in mind to notify the customer using meaningful methods. When there's customers money on the line they are cautious and if you make a mess of things - you will not convert this customer into a returning one!

On one hand, if you're looking for a versatile technology to process payments, JavaScript or Node.js may be more appropriate due to their range of applications. On the other hand, if you require a highly adaptable solution for an intricate e-commerce platform, Stripe may be the better choice with its flexible API and development tools. But if you are constructing a based-donation platform with a limited budget, PayPal might be optimal.
