In my experience, stakeholders should bear in mind that a gantt is based on estimate, and an estimate remain an estimate based on assumptions. Thus, the best way to use the gant chart is to use it as a model of reference to facilitate tracking progress; and not as what is supposed to be the reality. The Gantt isn't the reality of what should be or is the work in progress, only a tool.
