What are some effective ways to recognize high-performing employees and teams?

Recognition of high performance employees and teams: 1 Give consistent and constructive feedback. 2. Allow the flexibility and grow both professionally and personal. 3. Give the challenging projects - so that they will be occupied or engaged continuously. 4. Support them with all the tools whatever required to perform and also team. If there is no team ask them to pick the right team members for the project. 5. General recognition wont work in many cases , so personalized recognition is important.

Ensuring self-esteem is important to have motivated & satisfied team member. I believe, when an individual finds that his/ her is getting recognized by senior management & peers, she/ he feels happy which motivates to try even harder in the next assignment.

One thing I find helpful with recognizing high performance employees is ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. ACKNOWLEDGE and compliment that employee with accolades for any particular outstanding performance. ACKNOWLEDGE that employee with responsibilities and inclusion in new projects. The inclusion in the new projects sends a message that he or she is valued and their opinions matter. Give the employee the responsibility of mentorship as an OPPORTUNITY to grow as a leader. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS + NEW RESPONSIBILITY = OPPORTUNITY. The OPPORTUNITY for Growth and Development and Leadership.

I think, we should recognize each team member's positive personality traits, talent, effort & achievement. For example, if we have team member who always greets everyone with a nice smile, we should recognize that. If we have a team member who understands the given assignment quickly, we should recognize that. At the same time, if we have a team member who is average in intellectual ability but gives his/ her best effort to achieve the given target them we should also recognize that.

I have a very simple philosophy, "I look good when my team members look good." So, for any given project, whenever possible, I try to let my team member(s) to make presentations in front of company's senior management, clients & peers. I surely support them if I see they are having difficulties in a manner that portrays their efforts & achievements. I think, it helps my team members in 2 ways. They feel esteemed & they become more confident. It helps me in improving my team members' efficiency & motivation.

While recognition programs are great. It’s important to remember that individuals have different personalities and motivations and factor all styles of motivations into our rewards and recognition programs. For example, some people dislike public recognition and would appreciate a handwritten note of recognition for example. Others prefer monetary compensation as a form of recognition. So special bucks or lightening strikes to thank team members for a job well done is a great form of reward and recognition. And let’s not forget that the best form of recognition is promotion.
