Although this is great for choice and variety it can also be overwhelming. While advising students it's helpful to know their passions in academically, culturally, and socially to best guide them to options that are a value-add to their college experience.

What if we gave kids freedom to learn about anything of interest to them? Educators need to understand the difference between engagement & compliance. Quiet & sitting still doesn’t = engagement. Give me the classroom that’s lively & talkative in their learning. Students need their emotional, cognitive & physical needs met to truly be engaged.

For example, team sports teach cooperation, time management, leadership, listening skills and focus among other skills transferable to further education and employment.
