One valuable way I have seen CSL benefit students is during intervention classes for struggling learners. Appropriately designed CSL opportunities aligned to skills students are struggling with can be an excellent opportunity to practice those skills in a low stakes environment. For example, high school students struggling to read can volunteer at nursing homes or assisted living facilities and read to residents who can no longer manage on their own or enjoy read alouds. Residents enjoy the company and the stories, and students practice reading skills without judgement. These creative and aligned opportunities grow student confidence, build relationships, and develop agency. They also connect students to their community. It's a win-win.

5 Celebrate and share the results

Finally, it is important to celebrate and share the results of the CSL project, both with the students and the community. You should acknowledge and appreciate the efforts and achievements of the students and the community partners.
