En modo gráfico, la restauración del sistema no es necesaria si tienes la versión estable de Gnu/Linux que es la que muchos usuarios tienen en sus equipos. La comunidad se encarga de que tus actualizaciones sean la misma que tienes en tu equipo. Acá siempre he usado la Estable en mis equipos y en los que ensamblo. Nunca instalo las que son para desarrolladores.

Acá en el de mi uso a diario (son 5 equipos: dos de mi esposa, dos míos y uno de mi hijo de 13 a?os) que tengo ArchLinux (míos y mi hijo de trece a?os), Ubuntu Budgie y Ubuntu Studio (los dos de mi esposa) no hemos tenido que hacer reinstalaciones ni siquiera cuando reemplazamos el hardware (son equipos tipo torre 3 de ellos), porque el sistema reconoce automáticamente el hardware instalado sin instalaciones ni reinicios, solo prendes y usas. Parte de eso que se menciona solo aplica a Windows.
