What are some effective methods to ensure team members retain workshop information?

Absolutely, pre-workshop preparation is a crucial step for enhancing information retention. By providing clear objectives, agendas, and preparatory materials beforehand, you help participants activate existing knowledge and spark their interest. This preparation not only reduces anxiety but also allows for a more tailored and relevant workshop experience.

Indeed, utilizing visual and verbal aids is a highly effective strategy to enhance information retention from workshops. These aids, like slides, charts, videos etc.. serve as powerful tools to reinforce key concepts and messages. They cater to various learning styles, making the content more accessible and memorable.

Just like how vaccination programmes often comes with scheduled "booster" doses to help our immune system retain deeper impressions (and sometimes updated variant) of target antigens; a well timed follow-up workshop, prompt or check-in with learners can have similar effects. Try this, follow-up with learners 1 month post-learning to ask if they have had the opportunity to apply their learning (if so, ask them to share how). If not, ask them to share how someone else around them had applied it. This stimulates recall/practice and reaffirms their efforts as well. Have you done a post session booster before? For a good lesson plans is a living document, which not only needs to constantly evolve to meet the changing times and landscape but also to adapt real-time to the needs of each audience. However, the ability to secure genuine, constructive feedback is the true King Maker. To do so, content developers must work closely with all stakeholders, particularly the facilitators to actively create a safe environment for constructive feedback. What I personsaly adopted, is a program of blended learning. Live training and after that support is given in the form of an online course. Live courses help with collaboration to attain a better result while the online course is to strengthen on that what was learnt and helps with retention but also further expansion of knowledge.

the best way is to check with the participants by a personality test and also a quick 30mins classrooom discussion after 3 months training to understand the learning impact

Interactive groups, where all participants have an opportunity to share experiences, questions and insecurities in a safe space, assists meaning making and learning on various levels. If confidentiality can be accepted by the all role players as a ground rule before the engagement starts, higher levels of honest sharing and engagement with information and others may take place.

What I have found works well over all my years of coaching and training, is to make the workshop or training interactive. Allow for discussions and ask pertinent questions to test understanding. You could also mix up your presentation styles to increase retention of information and boost the attention ability.
