Vocal fry, when untrained, is the lowest notes, a human can sing. As an opera singer, I use the vocal fry very gently, to bring my chords together, I drag the vocal fry up as high as I can, as an SOVT exercise, semi occluded vocal technique. I learned this from the great Cynthia Hoffmann at Manhattan School of Music.

Hello, thank you for opening up this conversation. As a collaborative pianist for singers, I work a lot with college students. I'm a staff pianist at Rowan university for their vocal department. A course in vocal health is required for a vocal degree there, which has an education emphasis. As young, social people, I think it's more of a challenge for college students to know how to use their voices properly and not over use them. There are requirements for solo singing, ensemble singing, and often many performances. They're encouraged to stay hydrated,rest. If they overuse their voices, they have to go on vocal rest.to avoid this, voice faculty take preventative measures to explain to students how to use their voices properly.

It has been spotted in its earliest forms through artists like Macy Gray and Amy Winehouse.
