What are some creative ways to use color in landscape visualization?

One of the things that helps me in using colors for design is paying attention to the type of vegetation and climate of an area. For example, in tropical areas with hot and dry weather, I usually use white materials for sitting platforms. But because these areas do not have rich vegetation, to add vitality to the designed environment, elements with happy colors such as blue are used. I use orange and green.

In larger areas color palettes can be more exuberant with lots of opposites from the color wheel accented with more chartreuse range foliage plants.

I think some creative ways to use color in landscape visualization by color temperature and mood are using warm colors to create a sense of warmth, energy, excitement, or happiness and cool colors to create a sense of coolness, calmness, relaxation, or sadness and also complementary colors to create a sense of harmony, balance, or contrast in landscape. On the other hand, using color temperature shifts to create a sense of atmosphere, perspective, or movement in landscape. Color temperature shifts are changes in the warmth or coolness of colors depending on the lighting conditions and the distance from the viewer.

I prefer to have architectural elements be less saturated in my visualizations to create a focus on the landscape elements. A simple, desaturated architectural massing is the perfect backdrop for dramatic views. This method lends itself to conceptual work as it is unrealistic and can mislead a client to the finished condition if not explained properly.

What I learnt while working in diverse climates you have to be very careful while selecting the plant species and hardscape materials especially their colour and texture. You have to choose some warm colours for cooler climates to give the feeling of warmth similarly you can use wooden material for hardscape as wood keeps its surface warmth even in winters while stones get hotter and cooler quickly along with temperature. While you can add water features while landscaping in desert conditions to give the feeling of coolness and soothing effect for viewers eyes. Also use of cool colours like green blue white should be used in hot climates while designing the landscape

In my view, some creative ways to use color in landscape visualization by color gradients and transitions are Using linear gradients to create a smooth blend of two or more colors in a specified direction and using radial gradients to create a circular blend of two or more colors that radiate from a center point. Additionally, we can use conic gradients to create a circular blend of two or more colors that rotate around a center point and repeating gradients to create a periodic blend of two or more colors that repeat infinitely.

Sometimes with color selection I find that contrasting colors, and they don’t have to be bright bold extreme contrasts, really help the colors read better in the landscape. If a light color has something dark behind it, you will be able to pick it out better and see what the intent is more clearly.
