What are some challenges that teachers faced in the past that are still relevant today?

One of the most common challenges teachers has faced throughout decades is how to handle students’ behavior. Therefore, finding the correct strategies according to the situation is crucial. On the other hand, to solve this successfully we need parents’ support. And this is another well known challenge I have encountered. I believe this could be done successfully once we work with parents and school as a real teamwork.

Teachers often deal with diverse student populations regarding abilities, cultural backgrounds, languages, and learning styles, requiring them to employ various teaching strategies to accommodate all learners. and the most important challenge I believe personally supporting students' mental health while managing their well-being amidst the pressures of teaching is a growing concern.

Teachers grapple with enduring challenges, including excessive clerical work, navigating diverse student behaviors, and integrating evolving technologies. The burden of paperwork and administrative tasks persists, hindering instructional time. Classroom management remains a concern, necessitating attention to individual student needs. The fast-paced evolution of technology demands ongoing learning, often with limited time for research and professional development. Addressing diverse student needs, standardized testing pressures, and resource constraints further underscore the intricate nature of the teaching profession, emphasizing the need for ongoing support and systemic improvements.

Major transformation in teaching pedagogy that has happened over the years is a drastic change from 'Sage on the Stage' to "Guide by the Side'. With technological advancements, more information is available on the web. Educational Institutions should also modify their academic delivery incorporating different modes of study and evaluation individualized for student needs ; acknowledged credit transfers for courses across institutions, modular structure with an option to leave in between a programme with due acknowledgment of credits accumulated (i.e. depending on duration and modules completed, a student can earn a certificate, diploma, or degree, appropriately).

The entire landscape of education in India has undergone paradigmatic change. The role of an academic encompasses a wide variety of diverse activity wherein teachers find themselves immersed in redundant, often pointless paperwork. Innovation and creativity are relegated to the background, with the dogma of accreditation and ranking taking centerstage in most higher educational institutions. The stress is often a result of these pressures rather than the workload.

Classroom diversity in the field of accounting adds an enriching layer to the educational experience, presenting both opportunities and challenges for instructors. Beyond the traditional aspects of diversity, such as cultural backgrounds and language differences, accounting classrooms witness a blend of students with varying levels of financial acumen, analytical skills, and career aspirations. This diversity creates a dynamic environment where students bring unique perspectives to the study of accounting principles. Instructors must embrace this diversity, tailoring their teaching methods to cater to different learning styles and fostering an inclusive atmosphere where every accounting enthusiast feels valued.

I cannot adequately explain the changes of classroom diversity of CTE in 750 characters or less, so will summarize my viewpoint. There once was a time where a CTE instructor who ruled with an iron fist and enforced petty rules was widely respected automatically by his/her students. It was all about what that instructor wanted. Today with vastly different scenarios with each student ranging from economics, mental health, home life, etc…that iron fist instructor fails. Students view that type of instructor as ineffective and rebel by having an attitude oppositional to learning. It’s not coddling, but the students need to feel that instructor actually cares about their individual outcomes even while they function in a group setting.

Managing diversity in classroom is personal and it has to do what values and moral defines the teachers understanding on what diversity is all about. I have worked in the industry with a multinational company so I worked with people from different race, color, religion and gender. I have also thought in the classroom at all levels so have handled students from various background. Based on my expérience, diversity is key in accepting people, understanding who they are and what they represent. In one class, I had students from various tribe, nation, race and religion. Students must feel belonged and accepted in all situation.

Rather than a challenge I have often found classroom diversity to be stimulating and adds to the lessons. We learn about each other as well as learn a new language or subject. I would rather chose a diversified group than an all same classroom anytime.

Over the years I've learnt that for technology integration in education to be highly efficient, it has to be fun and easy to use while offering all the key components required to enhance engagement and security. Complex tools make the learning process less fun and harbour resentment towards utilisation.

In my experience, blend of professional knowledge, professional competency and much academic writing and reading can fine tune the teachers to improve their teaching. I think, even if the curriculum is old or new making students understand with case based studies or research papers can make class engaging and may incline to brainstorming sessions, as reasoning and experimenting should be the main focus in classes. No doubt the NEP 2020 and consistent efforts been made by UGC will definitely improve few of the above mentioned issues.

This is why I create content on LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube. Through my posts, I demonstrate to my students how to balance their tasks while maintaining a robust digital presence. Additionally, I regularly provide brief lectures, ranging from 10 to 15 minutes, about career development, post-graduation options, and valuable learning skills.

The challenge of selecting the best use of our time concerning professional development has always existed. It's like the dilemma we face when deciding on the best activities for our students. With so many PD options available, covering theories, classroom management, subject-specific skills, and technology integration, identifying the most effective activities that align with our students' needs, learning styles, and curriculum objectives is at times, overwhelming.

Using teacher observation and student achievement data can be useful in determining professional learning. Teachers want to know the why? Why are we doing this?. Otherwise it becomes a wasted opportunity. Another great data source is feedback from the staff based on their needs through surveys or just a quick parking lot chart after a faculty meeting. One thing to be if caution about this one is that at time as educators especially new teachers they’re unaware about what they know and don’t know. This can make professional development planning a challenge. Data is a great starting point.

Teacher burnout is too real. We are tasked with making hundreds of decisions in the moment each day, with children that are not our own, and in the end it is our own families and mental health that suffers.

Teachers often have a substantial workload that includes lesson planning, grading, preparing materials, and attending meetings. The sheer volume of tasks can be overwhelming. Teachers are not only responsible for classroom instruction but also for administrative tasks such as completing paperwork, attending meetings, and participating in professional development. These administrative responsibilities contribute to their overall workload and can be a source of stress. Teachers often face pressure to ensure that their students meet academic standards and perform well on standardized tests. This pressure can be stressful. Prioritizing teacher well-being is crucial for fostering a positive and effective learning environment.

As there is growing global demand for teachers... Along with the increasing numbers leaving the industry. That load is falling on teachers who remain. The high amount of paperwork, data, teaching differentiation of lessons along with the decreased lesson preparation time and more demand to do unpaid work after hours is just breaking teachers. This isn't just happening in one country, but rather many. The lack of support along with using teachers to scapegoat at the situation is only making the situation worse.

Planning lessons and activities, furnishing records, designing AV aids, preparing students for activities like Special Assemblies, Annual Days and Competitions, managing classroom with almost 45 students including Children with Special Needs, lecture capturing coupled with correction work, stay backs and bus duties, makes our day extremely busy leaving almost no space for relaxation or reflection. Standing for almost the entire day while at school makes it physically taxing, leaving us tired and exhausted. Undoubtedly a teacher’s job is mentally and physically exhausting but the worst part is, that we as teachers are unable to enjoy the quintessential classroom experience and when back home we feel drained out.

I always visualize the accounting classroom as a lively orchestra and my mission as a maestro is to create harmony among the different instruments (students). From the calculators drumming out calculations to the talkative trumpets expressing ideas, and the studious violins stringing along with focus, the maestro guides this diverse ensemble to create a melodious accounting tune. There are soloist star players, the students who excel in specific financial areas. Also, there may be mischievous monkeys introducing offbeat moments into our accounting symphony. The maestro plays a crucial role in shaping student behavior, embrace the rhythm of the accounting orchestra and guide students toward a harmonious and financially literate future.

El mal comportamiento de los estudiantes es uno de los problemas en aumento dentro de la escuelas. Las familias en los hogares deben de ense?ar desde tempranas edades a los ni?os a respetar y las buenas normas de conducta qué son internacionales, solo así los maestros las pueden reforzar, de lo contrario, realmente es un problema demasiado importante para pasar por alto, teniendo en cuenta que los salones están llenos, es muy difícil al final que los estudiantes puedan obtener buenas calificaciones.

One thing I've always found helpful and crucial in education is consistency. Routines need to always be consistent. Of course, at times with the school day to day it is easy to be reactive and feel as though you are fighting a losing battle, but all human being not only children thrive on routines. Expectations need to be clear. I found that it always helps to explain "the why" to children, the reason behind expectations and rules that way there is a buy in from all.

The traditional brick and mortar school system is very outdated, in my opinion. Ever since taking my first MOOC, I envisioned higher education becoming inevitably involved in open online courses. Now, this hasn’t taken route as well as I would’ve hoped years ago, but the Covid pandemic definitely push things in that direction. Online courses and technologies are more readily available, more affordable, and more accepted by instructors. But we still have a long way to go! I imagine the future will be less brick and mortar, and much more independent educator-driven. Platform like Udemy give a great template to utilize and start creating this style of open course catalogs for each degree and specialty. At least, that’s my hope!

The age-old challenge of not overwhelming struggling students while keeping gifted students engaged. This is still an issue, especially in tough curricula like engineering. Fortunately, there are techniques (utilizing both technology and creative approaches) that can directly address/help both ends of the student spectrum.

All schools should have a certified librarian. Students need books. They need to learn to love reading. Then as they get in upper grades , they need to learn how to do research from picking a topic to finding resources.

In my view, the biggest challenge that a good teacher faces is that people controlling the teachers are themselves poor teachers. It is evident that administration is much easier than teaching and research. Thus, those who are not good at these have incentives to get into administration and then, later on, these people would tell what is good teaching!

One thing I’ve found helpful is to grant permission for teachers to try innovative things in their classrooms. This requires an organizational reframing of failure. Leaders at all levels of the organization need to know it’s ok to try something new without fear. This reinforces a culture of innovation.
