How about a soft integration strategy? While with Equifax I identified and negotiated a marvelous acquisition. John, the VP, congratulated my effort but then announced that I was not to proceed with integration planning and not to contact the Company for 12 months, adding that the CEO, benefits and HR staff, etc. were also not to get involved either! No one except John. A year and a day later I called the CEO of the acquired company and he said, "Andy, where have YOU been?" I asked how the last 12 months were and he said, "Great, couldn't have been better. John is great to work with, and the company never bothers us!" That defied most post-merger integration practices, but in rare instances a 'light hand' may be the right approach.

As i was more active on the deal side i know that plenty of things can happen, but by doing so the PMI team can onboard and learn before things get heated for them. I have seen too many deals being damaged by e.g. not looking for a strategy to remain key personal, a lack of planning for processes and procedures, access and identy etc. Loosing time there will effect the return substantially..
