Firstly, it's important to curate your online presence by showcasing your best work and engaging authentically with your audience. Consistency and authenticity is key when it comes to your (online) brand as an artist! Use the same branding/styles, communication and logos throughout all your online profiles so fans and customers easily recognize you. Don't try to be someone you are not. Stay real and authentic.

Branding can be tricky but I think its important to understand that there will be changes to your brand, as it grows or as you, yourself change in your views and intent. However, even if the language behind your brand may change or you update your logo, its important to remember your initial reason for wanting to build something and its overall representation of your true beliefs. And even though we are naturally people pleasers, remember that it's your brand, your vision, and choosing those who align, is key!

There is no need to be present on 10 different social media platforms. Choose the platforms which you feel comfortable using and you expect your (future) followers and fans to use and start creating and sharing content. If you like creating videos or even live videos of you creating your work, make sure to use YouTube, Instagram or Twitch. If you prefer posting pictures and text updates use Facebook, Linkedin and Instagram.

This mindset has been a tough one for me; I always wanted enormous visibility, where people could find me on whatever platform of THEIR choosing; I'm an artist. However, there are those platforms in which I've definitely decided that I didn't want to be a part of nor take the time to learn - so this is concrete. However, with platforms like Instagram and Facebook being linked and now Threads being linked to Instagram, so on and so on. It presents some concerns, esp if you'd like your website to become visible on Google. The more links you have, the more visible you become. With that said, I'm still trying to solidify which platforms are best for me or if I should't change anything. Choosing platforms should be personal and not societal.

For artists and those in the art world, Instagram is the main platform to use. Be active daily, follow others, and leave comments.

In my experience, I would advise artists to focus on Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube. Gives you the edge and you get indexed fast on Google

There are many ways to go about creating valuable content! In my opinion, the most interesting one for artists is offering a look behind the scenes. When you visit art fairs, exhibit in galleries or other places or when you are painting in your studio - offer insights behind the scenes. Your followers and customers usually only see the end product which is your amazing work - but what they don't see is, how you got there.

I see artists doing incredible work! But, many forget to engage with their fans. Why does this matter? Engagement lets them know that they're important to you. It tells them that they have something to contribute. And it shows them that you aren't just doing your creative works for you, but that they are included. Here's my advice: 1) Respond to all comments with your authentic voice 2) Give back to your fans through open-forum chat rooms 3) Share freebies with your followers to keep the relationship strong and to better gauge how they interpret your work 4) Invite connection 5) Tell them why they are important to you Your reputation as an artist is about the way you're viewed. Genuine relationship wins every time.

Although creating and maintain your personal brand as an artist can seem overwhelming, consistency is the key. Building a community and maintain positive community is difficult and takes years to build. Don’t give up when it seems like nobody is watching! Being present online and in person can benefit your artist career in the long run.

Building your brand takes time and consistency! For some artists it may take a while to build a following and an online community for others it may take quite some time. Either way - don't be discouraged when in the beginning there is no return on your investment. Stay consistent with your postings and try to produce quality content. Offer interesting insights into your life as an artist - the positive and negative aspects of it.

Answering the main question: Managing your online reputation can be quite difficult because u start to be a cross between holding onto your integrity or following the social construct of allowing trends and the outcomes from your posts to dictate your validity and worth. However, staying true to yourself is key! You WILL attract the audience that connects with your content. Also positive and insightful reviews of your work is very helpful! On another note, staying connected on what the trends ARE and continuing to develop your skill in marketing yourself on social media, will never steer you wrong! Lastly, don't be afraid of vulnerability because everyone has a story and when you share yours, you may help someone else.
