What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of using R, Python, and Julia for statistical programming?

In our work with multiple lower- and middle-income countries, R is the clear choice because it does not have completely-unaffordable license fees. We are able to co-develop code and analytic strategies in collaboration with experts anywhere in the world, rather than bespoke solutions that last only as long as our latest funding stream. Oh, and what do the original posters mean about "slow performance?" This may be true for genuine big-data sets, but I routinely use R on epidemiologic datasets that number in the thousands to tens of thousands of records, and I find the performance quite snappy on a standard-issue laptop. So in the public health world, at least, R is truly the obvious choice.

I like both Python and R. They are not similar and thus there is this little “competition” between both communities. But R is excellent for statistical analysis, EDA. Tidyverse is much easier than pandas, in my opinion. Python is much more versatile than R. It is widely used for deploying applications and integrations. So, different uses. Both great languages. I use both.
