One thing I have found valuable is understanding the data landscape in terms of structure, collection methods and storage. This would then aide decided on what activities in form of analysis would follow such as statistical concepts and ability to interpret basic data visualizations. Communication and story telling using data is such a huge plus in that one is able to communicate insights to the non technical audiences. This is done by presenting data in a clear, coincise and compelling way using visualizations and story telling techniques. Aside from the above, one needs to then make decisions that are data driven leveraging on the data analysis to form strategic business decisions not forgetting potential risks that come with them.
