There are six common and well known steps you can use to effectively engage with people: - Pay attention - Withhold judgment - Reflect - Clarify - Summarize - Share You can easily keep track of conversation using this approach. Additionally, it aids empathy by helping to find anomalies in personnel behavior, assuming frequent or, at least, consistent interaction.

The first and foremost is Communication and not speaking. It includes Listening, Recording (Information), Clearly passing it to next person, Follow Ups and Feedback, and apart from that it includes not limited to Presenting, Negotiations, etc.

Combining formalized communication methods, with informal topics, and legitimate professional interest in employees will generate authentic interactions. However, authenticity is only as authentic as you allow yourself to be when interacting with employees. It is what we might call "real," or, at least, not scripted or clearly an attempt at mitigating complications in employees relations, although it could be that. The point is that communication done well can result in the formation of formal (work) and informal (outside of work) groups necessary for a cohesive workplace. It takes time and trust for people to remove their corporate facade but you have to treat people like they're people not their jobs. Empower others to speak.
