Most secured APIs are architected in the backend using suitable languages and frameworks. I personally have used Java, Python, PHP and NodeJs for my API developments. Some languages and frameworks are front-end targeting and are mostly not considered secured. As such, those APIs should be written under security consciousness. As such, you don't have much choice but to secure your APIs with the latest technology as much as possible.

That all being said, API developers should be careful to determine the benefits and tradeoffs of using an RDMS for their project, as it may be more beneficial to utilize a more effective tool for the job.

One thing I've found helpful is the use of Swagger codegen tools , it makes the entire codebase easier to traverse thereby reducing the cognitive effort to understand the code. It also means it's easier for developers from other teams to work in your code base.

How Testing is helpful? Testing makes sure the API works correctly and does what it's supposed to. How Debugging is helpful? Debugging finds and repairs any mistakes or issues in the API's code. Should we use tools? Yes, Use various tools to test and debug your API. These tools help automate the process and catch problems early. For APIs, one should implement unit tests, integration tests, API tests etc.

In my experience, there are 3 key components in designing a proper API test plan: code level testing (Unit & Integration Tests ideally using Test-Driven Development principals), endpoint testing using tools like Katalon, Postman, etc. and monitoring (smoke tests) using Azure Monitor or similar to ensure uptime. Test Driven Development principals will substantially reduce churn when developing APIs. Using TDD, your developers will write tests that meet the requirement specs then code to ensure those tests pass vs writing code they think meets all the requirements then writing tests that pass based on code/logic that's already been written. Debugging, in my opinion, deserves it's own section in this article.
