The importance of certification is not just to have a diploma to hang in the wall. It was to really hone my skills to a very fine degree with others. Sure, I could have stopped after taking the course, but I wouldn’t have really honed the skills and techniques I learned in the course without certification. During certification, I had 2 coaching supervisors that listened to me coach individuals, give me feedback during my calls with them, and grade me on my performance. I also engaged with other coaches during the certification process and got feedback from them. Think of certification as a file in which we hone the tools we use.

Being certified as a life coach gives one more opportunity, increases trust between the coach and his clients, and helps improve the coach's credibility. The truth is that, even though a life coach doesn't need to hold a certified life coaching certificate, to practice, most clients will feel more comfortable working with a coach that has a coaching certificate. It will make the client feel he is patronizing a professional and not a quack.

There are numerous choices for coaching certifications available. My advice is to do your research and find the program that aligns with your core values, beliefs and offers a rigorous training so that when you finish you are equipped with the tools and knowledge to move you toward whatever your goals may be.

When looking to choose the best coaching certification, I recommend always working backwards from the governing industry association body. From there, see which courses are approved. Because if your course is not approved, you can’t get membership into your industry body, liability insurances will be harder to get.

I agree with all the recommendations given, yet I would add one more: Talk to professionals who have gone through that program’s certification process. You’ll discover firsthand of the program delivers what it promises!

The certification program that I went through was the Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC). The wonderful aspect of that program was upon completion, I could simply apply for my ICF ACC certification, take the ICF exam, and upon passing that, I was now an ICF certified coach. Yes, the CTI program is costly, and yet the education modules and certification process really prepared me to be an effective coach upon completion. It also bundled together everything in one package to earn my ICF certification. Had I not gone down that route, I would have needed to do other tasks that might have left me feeling overwhelmed.

I can only speak to the program I went through HCI. It is costly, but they not only teach you the philosophy, what it means and looks like to be a coach.. they also teach you a done for you program, and encourage you don't reinvent the wheel. You also get an easy scheduling tool so I was able to practice with other students and I had monthly coaching sessions to work on my own growth. My understanding of other programs = they send you a fat book they expect you to read alone, and then you take a test.

Know your “Why.” What’s motivating you to want to become a certified coach? Is it money, freedom, making a difference, or something else? When you understand your purpose, your “Why?”, then it will guide your expectations and results.

CONSIDER- How does the certification fit into your overall business plan? If hundreds of people have the exact same certification how will the one you choose , and more importantly how YOU implement it, make you stand out / value prop …. Do your due diligence. Coaching certification is a business focused on money first and people second. Yes, even though it’s coaching and we consider it heart centered, the reality is they are in business to make money. Investigate their longevity and documented results. Talk with people who have taken their certification. While I am certified over the last 15 years, no one has ever asked to see proof. Make sure that the content is quality and the support is there.

Flexibility is better than mindless rigidity In the course of running a program, one should make an effort to continually stay focused and be open-minded to assimilate the new concept that one will be introduced to from time to time. Also, one must develop the interest and drive to try new things and continuously update one's knowledge. Apart from that, there should be a willingness to put what one has learned into practice.

Also, a certified life coaching program is only the beginning of learning. A coach should continually take to learning and implementing new things after completion of a certified life coaching program. That is why, coaches must dedicate themselves to learning from the other life coaches too. A certified life coaching course will show one the path to follow, but it is not the end of the road that leads to learning. One should keep learning from other coaches' experiences and tap into their knowledge, after the course completion.

?Cómo tener éxito como Coach de vida? Tomar una certificación es solo el comienzo... Una vez terminada (incluso mejor si se hace durante el mismo proceso), buscar tener claros los siguientes temas: -Comienza con el fin en mente: es importante tener claro que es lo que quieres, solo adquirir habilidades para la vida o hacerlo Negocio. -Quién requieres SER: con el objetivo claro define quien requieres ser para lograrlo, y parte de ahí para definir el estado mental y emocional que requieres, y acciones y hábitos que harás de manera constante. -Resiliencia: conseguir tener un Negocio de Coaching exitoso no es fácil, vas a encontrar muchos obstáculos, las cosas no van a salir como esperar, cultiva el estado mental para lidiar con eso.

Being a Good Listener. This skill always helps you earn trust and make you more relevant and impactful. People seek support more than knowledge, they seek more understanding than instructions and more empathy than finding mistakes .

In my experience, apart from the program curriculum, I look at the credentials and integrrity of the facilotator. It is very important to me that the facilitator embodies someone who I want to model eventually. Someone who walks the talk and shares the same core values as I do. I also look at the quality and success rate of the graduates to assess the effectiveness of the program I am interested in. ????

The key to choosing a coaching certification that works for you is a prior understanding of; is coaching really for you? The desire to help is not sufficient. Infact it's not the criteria, as coaches cannot help anyone. Only clients help themselves. There needs to be an overwhelming desire to add value to life, ours and others. Having been a coach for over 10+ years this is my biggest learning. Once that is clear, the objective behind this career path, a course that supports psychological understanding along with ICF parameter will work. Please remember, coaching is an evolving business and learning is a constant requirement.
