What safety measures are needed when programming CNC robots?

That is kind of questions you can not really answer even though I am very close relations as system integrator Maker and robotics Pro, cnc is very near and have same knowledge use to sole cases but the answer for that is experience! , the only human that actually answe that question is the one that have the most time with that CNC machine , my answer is check and measure function of the most important and delicate matters such as table and zero of the tool calibration between workspaces , and good pos processing code between Mastercard and the cnc , dont walk at places you don't have experience and check as many unexpected faults

In My Experience, Safety Isn't to hard to wrap your head around, here are some things to keep in mind - For Medium to High Risk (Permanent Damage, Dismemberment, or Death) Ensure there is redundancy, and Ideally monitoring of these safety circuits, the safety circuits must be able to function properly if one thing were to fail (use two redundant 480 VAC contactors upstream of output devices, if one contactor stays pulled in when it shouldn't, the other contactor will maintain a safe shut off and monitoring will allow you to know when your safety circuit has failed.) Think of how the operator will interact with the machine, and know what should be allowed to run depending on where the operator is in relation to the machine.

Feel Free to Ease your way into a new program, run a portion of it at a time through step mode SLOWLY, once sub movement and sequences are tested and verified, start putting them together, and before you know you will have confidence and trust in your program to run without issue, and reliably. If you start testing out a whole robot sequence you may be in for a long day of chasing your tail. Start at the smallest level of programming, verify, and build, verify, and build, before long you will have a bulletproof and proficient Sequence.

Always Be Calm and understanding with teaching operators. Keep in mind their motives and goals are much different than yours are as a machine builder, listen to their questions, concerns, issues, and suggestions. After all, these are your customers, if they want a feature and it's possible for you to implement it, there is no downside to implementing that suggestion as the customer will be happier, you will receive less support calls, and you will build a great relationship with customers. Be calm, understanding, and humble.

Boil down new projects as soon as you can and as efficiently as you can. I love using excel to quickly (in one day), map out all I/O for a project, Machine safety groups, Intended station sequences, required HMI features, and any portions of the project that are unclear yet. This boiled down excel sheet is so so important to a respectable controls engineer. You use this excel sheet as a guide through the design process, you use this sheet to send out to mechanical design, to electricians, builders, project leads, project managers, project salesmen, the customer, managers, etc. This initial Excel sheet is your Rosetta stone for anyone else in the company, and allows you to stay on track.
