Network Time Protocol, or NTP, is a useful way for networks to stay in sync. The protocol reaches out to a central time provider and updates a system's internal clock to match. The provider can be one of many globally available time servers on the internet, or it can be an internal NTP server that you provision. This second option is useful for high security "air-gapped" network environments. Why do you need to be in sync? There are a couple reasons. First, computer networks can actually bog down and become slower or even inoperative if there are severe timing mismatches. Secondly, encryption protocol often check the time of the client that is connecting, and if they are as little as 5 minutes apart, they will reject connecting.

importante tener un sevidor NTP confiable y que preferentemente sea el respectivo al pais de origen (en su defecto uno neutro y hacer las correcciones necesarias); la bateria del cmos no seria un gran problema, ya que el ntp va a sincroniar el sistema en el inicio del SO... pero si no ocurre, claramente tenemos en frente un problema de conectividad o (y lo que revisaria antes que todo) una disponibilidad del servidor NTP (de ahi que sea confiable)
