Adults really love gamification, and applying to their inner child is one of the simplest ways to make them learn. ?? Also, non-profit recognition can't be underestimated: it's always fun to have a fabulous collection of badges / stickers / diplomas / whatever. A couple of years ago I was coaching the team of industrial workers, age 30+, recently promoted to Team Leaders and Supervisors. Speaking of these particular employees (not considering industry or age), most of them were a bit skeptical about soft-skills learning. So, I chose some funny team games for our first training session. At the end of the day, they were fighting tooth and nail to gain chocolate medals during the quiz)) And then kept looking forward to our next trainings.

In my experience, recognition is one of the most underutilized tools managers have. While colleagues may choose to join a team or organization for monetary reasons, many times they choose to leave because of the lack of recognition. As manager's we need to find those recognition moments and share them in two forums, your team meetings and your 1-on-1 with your own manager. Your team meetings will give that colleague the spotlight they have worked for among their peers and serve as a catalyst for some to adopt continuous learning. In your own 1-on-1 with your manager, it will not only show that you're fostering ongoing learning, but also give your colleague some "face-time" with your manager as you help your colleague build their own brand.
