What qualities make a CSR project team leader effective?

It is pertinent for a CSR Leader to have the background of Social Work/Development Sector. This enables them with grassroot realities and complexities. Any project designed in board room must be avoided, thus a leader themselves & along with their team must visit field and understand all details - social, demographic, geographical and financial before giving final shape to project. Leader must be proactive and focus on their & implementing partners team to keep them motivated and on track. Periodic review and field visits with dynamic reporting framework are essentials. As a leader one must be well read and promote bottoms up approach to ensure rightful strategy for implementation.

CSR Team Leader for me is anyone with academic required qualifications and a professional with high EQ and have balanced approach to take up multiple functions and interventions with steady approach, ensure task delegation of task and ensure the review of it and the monitoring of the assigned work to team to get best results, ensure fine balance of various CSR functions-CSR governance, compliance, CSR investments, close monitoring, progress tracking against CSR investments , internal Impact tracking through M& E monitoring framework and third party Impact to be the best CSR team Leader to drive collective impact. To be the best CSR leader one should have great communication skills, required business acumen.

For Me, CSR Leader is someone who have strong Busienss acumen of CsR, Grant making Program design and delivery, perfect and sound knowledge of due diligence of Nonprofits for grant investments and scorecard to short list them for grant giving, know how’s of key stakeholder engagement and management strategically , welll sink with management vision and approach to giving back to Society. It’s important to choose right ngo partners and implementing channels wherein things will be Co-fostered and co_created by team, team gets degree of freedom to deliver it effectively to ensure the CsR investments done in right spirit and manner to envision the sustainable impact in the phassed manner, provide strategic thinking to drive impact

Putting trust in your team and ability to accept ideas , while you work with each team member as per their strengths and give scope for them to work on their area of improvement.

In my opinion, CSR leader should deeply involve in curation and execution of any CSR project. What's the expectation in terms of impact and outcome one should clearly outline and measure it time to time. As a CSR leader one should know how the org policies and strategy are aligned to CSR projects

The community (geographic or occupational) must be engaged in solution development. This is how you empathise with the community and make them programme participants.

In my experience, I feel that the CSR team lead should be able to ensure inclusion of community voices in each and every process related to the project. The core of principle of equality in decision making should be practiced where community member should be considered as equal stakeholders and not just a receiver or a beneficiary. Similarly the CSR project team leader should raise above the role of donor or granter and seek for overall welling of the community.

In my opinion empathy and emotional intelligence are essential qualities for a CSR leader, considering the nature of their role. They are tasked with addressing societal issues, interacting with a diverse range of stakeholders, and bringing about positive change. Empathy enables a CSR leader to understand and share the feelings of others, including the challenges faced by communities, employees, and stakeholders affected by CSR initiatives. This understanding leads to a more compassionate and inclusive approach, ensuring that CSR efforts are tailored to meet the genuine needs and concerns of those affected.

Les situations ne sont pas forcément fixes, certaines ont tendances à évoluer, à changer. Il est donc nécessaire que le plan s’adapte à ces changements, à ces évolutions. C’est là que le sens d’adaptabilité et de flexibilité du responsable RSE a toute son importance. Le plan de départ peut ne pas répondre à certains attentes. Les indicateurs peuvent ne pas montrer d’évolution, il faut alors avoir un sens de la flexibilité pour le modifier afin d’arriver à des indicateurs évoluant dans un sens positif. Le responsable RSE ne doit pas être rigide dans ses missions.

As we work with various stakeholders, flexibility is necessary for everyone involved. As CSR leaders, we are responsible for maintaining all party's interests, as we would want to lose our partners and supporters. But being flexible doesn't mean changing the project vision and trajectory each time someone decides on a different one. On the contrary, flexibility is present when we can show how others' visions and language can exist in the bigger picture of our current project.

A CSR Leader needs to be able to command the respect of business leaders (not just CSR teams), in order to be heard at the high table, and advocate for the community and the environment. S/he must have excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

A CSR project leader has to wear many hats and has multiple responsibilities to manage projects according to number targets, outcome targets, financial spend and making sense of what happens in the field with her frontline workers. The ability to balance all of it through a mix of empathy, conceptual clarity, field level knowledge, reporting skills and ability to take sometimes hard decisions will distinguish the leader

A CSR team leader should be empathetic. Everybody showers sympathy but by being empathetic one can provide solutions to problems in a focused way. He/ she should be able to bridge the gap between the corporate and social structure. CSR is much more than philanthropy.
