What are the pros and cons of a cross-functional project team?

Cross-functional teams allow people from different backgrounds to share knowledge and this help everyone in the team learn from each other and develop new skills.

One thing I found helpful is setting expectations from the beginning and clarifying them when we face a new milestone in the project. This allows the team to make the best decision, emphasizing their crucial role in the project. Using tools helps me visualise the big picture and transmit clearly what we need and when we need it.

“Reduce silos” is one of the most understated values that cross functional teams bring. Inclusivity in an organization is something I think has been ignored for too long. Many organizations actually foster an us v. them atmosphere. In the past when I’ve put together cross functional teams I’ve found it helps to include as many departments as possible, anyone who may be effected by the outcome of the teams project should feel included.

By having a team that includes members from various functions, resource allocation can be done effectively. Developers can focus on technical aspects while marketers can contribute to customer engagement strategies, resulting in a comprehensive approach to project execution.
