Standard deviation could be a useful mathematical equation to forecast buffer on cost frustration over a fixed period. However caution has to be applied while considering other macro factors (ie: economy performance, job data, government policies, etc) especially when forecasting for a much longer timeframe.

With this data, he can daily check the average prices and understand if there are any differences between the days. So, are the T-shirt prices increasing or decreasing? The standard deviation will be your best friend in this situation. Basically, you can set a confidence interval around the average. For example, if the average price is $15 and your confidence interval is ±$2, it means you accept prices between $13 and $17. With this information and If the standard deviation after some days, results in values above $17, it could be a sign to review your T-shirt prices. Probably, the prices could be increasing!
