Geophysicists can also use petrophysical modeling to improve the accuracy of their interpretations. A geophysicist can utilize petrophysical modeling to create a 3D velocity model using well and seismic velocity data. This can aid in time-to-depth conversion.

It's a nuance as both are forward modeling, but I would say in my experience the term petrophysical modeling is forward predicting the in situ reservoir characteristics and simulation is injecting various fluid characteristics into the model to observe predicted outcomes.

Petrophysical simulation is like playing a computer game where we simulate how fluids move around in the reservoir using data from our models. It helps us predict how the reservoir will perform and decide on the best ways to get oil and gas out.

Petrophysical modeling is the generation of structural and properties models and thus can be seen as an input for petrophysical simulation.
