What motivates you to solve problems in Algorithms?

Solving algorithmic problems make sense of being useful. It will help human species to be progressive. it is the root of some history maker events and you could be part of it.

A written story is composed of words. However, its concepts come from "the arrangement" of words, like a material composed of atoms, having its chemistry and properties from "the arrangement" of the atoms, or a musical masterpiece composed of notes. Similarly, the composed math behind a natural phenomenon is an algorithm, "the arrangement of data"!

In my experience challenging yourself will do all the points listed below whether it is interview preparation, learning new concepts, creating impact, or anything else. Don't try to settle down with the first solution that worked for you. challenge yourself to find better solutions, try to apply new concepts, check the runtime and space complexity, push your boundaries, and think out of the box. One would automatically start loving it, be motivated, and become an expert.

For me, solving problems is like happy sunny mornings in winter, but solving problems in algorithms is more like an art. For example, a 'house' is a house no matter how messy it is, it is the place where we live. If we organize it, put all the things in a decorative way following a pattern, and remove some unnecessary things, the same house would become cozy, making it look outstanding. Similarly, a solution using brute force is still a solution. But when that problem can fit into an algorithm, it provides a solution with a clear and less amount of code with optimal time and space complexity which is challenging as well as satisfying.

I find it satisfying to challenge myself & then get the solution right. I can then improve the computational complexity, refactor code to make it even better. It helps me to learn & think of new ways of solving a problem.

Algorithms are at the core of many cutting-edge technologies, from artificial intelligence and robotics to self-driving cars and personalized medicine. By solving problems in these areas, we can develop new solutions that address real-world challenges and improve our lives.

Discovering Countless clever ways of solving problems is my dopamine here. Some solutions are literally mind bending solutions for me. This helps me to think differently on real world problems also. Sometimes great stuff to peak curiosity of an interviewer too.

Learning new concepts is more important to fetch new information or concepts. This learning and concepts improvement in only create new insights.

Exploring data structures and algorithms is like unlocking a treasure of new ideas. Each problem is a chance to learn cool concepts, making it an exciting journey. Discovering how to organize and play with data feels like solving mysteries, keeping me eager to explore and add more tricks to my problem-solving skills.

What physics, chemistry and maths is to JEE. Data structures and Algorithms are to technical interview rounds. It is just a communication and filtration method.

On interviews I have different perspective, personally I don't like that current practice which is completely irrelevant from actual work situation and even that unable to filter right candidates instead of a fake person.

Companys that hire because you solved an algorithm fine (or even worse: learned it and then just reproduce that) are no good. You should go for a company that hires you because of your working culture and learning habits. Algorithms come and go

Just join the codeforces with a friend. Join 8PM contests. Thrill begins. They got fun problems to solve. Codeforces is a online competitive coding platform, where people from all over the globe compete.

To improve motivation for solving problems in algorithms is to incorporate gamification elements into the problem-solving process. This could involve creating a game-like environment where individuals can compete with each other, earn points, badges, or rewards for solving problems, and advance to higher levels as they progress. Gamification can make problem-solving more engaging, interactive, and entertaining, while also providing a sense of achievement and recognition. This might not be fun if we are just looking to solve problems for the sake of it. But when we gamify the problem solving itself then its way more fun. For me it is the discussion section in Leetcode is fun, just finding out there are new and better ways to code is refreshing. posting our solutions and getting good upvotes are entertaining, and writing algos and improving them to get a faster runtime in leetcode is ultimate fun.

Coding is a mind game. Everyone should try to solve at least one question everyday. This way we exercise our brain + we get a dopamine spike.

It’s difficult to think of a more enjoyable (at least for me, and I suspect many of those answering the question) part of math or quantitative science which simultaneously allows you to work on problems that can positively impact the world. The problems, if well-posed, are often cleanly defined, and you can show with absolute certainty that you solution reaches a certain level of efficacy. That’s almost impossible to find elsewhere in applied science, and can make the problems incredibly satisfying.

The Algorithms are not only for "preparing for faang-style interview". This is a very deep topic backed by strong purely mathematical background. Under each algorithm there is not just an explanation of how it works. There is always a formal mathematical proof, which explains why it works. The more we dive into the topic the more we develop our problem-solving skills. The algorithms teach us how to think. And the purpose of studying such a topic is to have broader mind and be more competitive comparing to the ones, who thinks brute-force.

The main impact I love is explaining the algorithmic concept to other people after struggling to solve and understand it. They also get to feel the “aaaaaaaaaah, now I get it” effect that has a big impact on me and pushes me towards more challenging problems.

"solving problems in algorithms" is not correct English. You solve real problems by developing solutions in two steps: devise the algorithm, then implement and test it works in differences cases/contexts. In other others you use algorithms to devise solutions for problems.

The more you deal with volumes and architectures of scale, the more you appreciate the algorithms, seemingly a benign inefficiency in code can get magnified when exposed volumes. In short, * Solving Questions are just a step in the long journey, it is not the ultimate goal. * if you are bad at it doesnt mean you cant improve * have patience to see the compounding effect. * need to work on yourself to improve. * one tiny improvement every day can take you far ahead in the road than waiting for being 100% improved.

Designing algorithms is an abstract work. It doesn't necessarily demand a technical expertise in a certain programming language, or even a know-how of using hardwares involved in running a process. It just demands logical thinking, and is, thus, the first step of designing any process.

Motivations for solving problems in algorithms: the flexibility, creativity, high degree of freedom for learning and? solving problems ! And for problems of unlimited domains ! In research? & academic work, I use algorithms to derive & validate formulas, compare & visualize classical formulas, simulate physical world... In practical work, I use it to implement automation and enable optimization processes, streamline classical design approaches and simulation? (e.g. replace hardware components with software algorirhm) ... In summary, unlike following? mandate working manuals, it enables me the space to learn, design, implement, validate? and solve complex problems.

You don't have to be an expert in maths. To me algorithms is figuring out the "recipe" of the solution. What you want to do at each stage, what you put in, what you get out. Start from the beginning and keep checking at each step, you get out what you want before moving on. One step at a time.
