What are the most user-friendly information architecture tools for UX designers?

For user-friendly information architecture tools, Lucidchart and Miro are excellent choices. Lucidchart's drag-and-drop interface is easy to use and supports real-time collaboration, integrating with tools like Google Drive and Slack, though some features require a paid subscription. Miro offers a highly visual platform ideal for remote teams, with extensive templates and integration with tools like Jira and Trello. While initially overwhelming, its robust collaboration features are great for complex IA projects.

The good old paper and pencil are always my go-to tools! Figjam definitely comes second. It is always good to have a digital, easy-to-share, and collaborative workspace.

I've used Adobe XD and Figma interchangebly for the last few years. Both do an exceptional job and FigJam is awesome for team collaboration in Figma.

My go too tool know is Miro for ease of use and collaboration. Site maps can do more than just organise structure. Use them to number templates, annotate with required functionality, create functional navigation areas like primary secondary and hygiene navigation. Use them in conjunction with story mapping to test user needs. Don’t organise content. Make sure you focus on template types. The content gets published into the templates. If you see something repeated you probably need to rethink things. Link numbering to your content plan.

Figma has been my go to tool in recent years for UX design and profiling. I really do like the Marvel application as well for a preliminary UX application as it lends itself to capture drawings from paper and test intended interactivity. This is 2024 and by 2026 I reserve the right to change my opinion of course ;)

For both website structure and wireframing, the specific tool you use is not crucial. The process has remained consistent for the past 20 years. Often, the best tools are simple ones like pen and paper, stickers, and tool like Figma. That's all there is to it; there's no need to overcomplicate the process. I have used Miro and many other tools, but now I'm trying to consolidate my work by using only Figma.

Adobe XD is also a good to have tool for easy prototype and collaboration as it can be handy when using photoshop and illustrator for design. Wireframes and prototypes can be handle by diff teams to get a professional final product.

Depending on the project size, my tools vary. For smaller projects, Miro is great for visually displaying content and architecture. For larger projects, Excel is beneficial for managing extensive data, but I still use Miro to illustrate the structure and relationships between content types.

Most cms (drupal, worpress, bludit, processwire, django, etc) comes with assets inventory. Selecting the best inventory/cms will depends on scope of project.

Card sorting provides an effective means of collaborating with stakeholders to develop a more viable information architecture. Following this, tree-testing should be conducted to ensure the smooth functioning of the information architecture.

Card sorting, just like User Story Mapping, should be mastered through practice. Afterward, you'll realize that the best tool for tasks like these is physical stickers exclusively.

I tested many, but the one that I use the most is draw.io. draw.io has everything you expect from a professional diagramming tool, and It is free. There are online and desktop versions. You can also integrate it into Confluence.

Userflows are an amazing example to explain design patterns/flows and even for engineers. I often see myself going over a code base creating a flow for a specific component from callback functions and imported files. It helps explain the code, functionality, and is a great tool for figuring out errors in the code because you’re not looking at it 10 feet away

They might be a wiz at Figma, but require ramp up time to use XD. They might prefer the UI of Lucidchart over Miro. Two separate designers may rate the user friendliness of draw.io vastly differently. There are other metrics to consider, like cost, collaboration, and file sharing, but when simply rating the user-friendliness of a tool, it's all about the users.

Flawed question. IA isn't UI. I think it's important to those reading this, particularly new to the space, it's a huge role not fulfilled without real people. The tool is you. You have to love data and be incredibly smart and connect with others. Yes. It's not easy. It's fun though.
