Education policies around the world are shifting to really focus on fairness and making sure everyone feels included. With classrooms getting more diverse because of things like migration and changes in society, it's super important to bridge gaps in gender and race, and to make sure we're supporting indigenous and minority communities too. Also, making education accessible for students with disabilities and special needs is a big deal. It's all about making sure everyone has a shot at success and helping our communities stick together.

One must be mindful of the difference between equity and equality and ensure understanding of policy and procedures surrounding this.

Equity does not mean equality. There are so many educational tools out there available to educators. The quantity of resources teachers utilize for instruction,however, does not always equate to quality. In fact, too many tools can become overwhelming. Furthermore, this could develop incoherence in instructional practices. Programs should be chosen strategically and evaluated for focus, coherence, and rigor.

The increasing emphasis on collaboration and partnership in education policy reflects the interconnected nature of educational challenges and solutions. Recognizing these as not just strategies but also outcomes of education enhances individual and group learning and development. Global trends such as globalization, decentralized governance, diverse expertise, and civil society mobilization underscore the need for collaborative policies. Some education acts were written simply to sway voters to vote for the politician who brought forth that policy. On the surface, new education policy can appear to address the needs of specific student sub groups. Yet when we dive deeper, practitioners see nothing but fluff and are unable to realistically implement the new policy to benefit those students. There is usually little to no accountability connected to education code when gaining constituents is the intent of policy development. Student success should be at the center of any educational policy changes. When we make data-informed student-centered decisions, we come closer to closing equity gaps and create meaningful educational experiences for all students.

Challenge ???? and personalisation ??? of learning are two key areas which continue to pop up during school reviews ?? We use a very innovative way to address the use of data ?? by students and teachers, challenge for all groups of students ?? and personalisation of learning through our learning menu ?? design within lessons. This allows students to choose ? their own learning pathways ?? based on what they know and how they progress. It’s not as easy as just plan and implement, there needs to be training and patience while students and staff adapt to the paradigm shift ??

A couple of unfortunate and highly negative global trends are taking place in higher education. While they are not directly policy-driven, they provide direction and influence decision-making at the executive level. First, the excessive focus on rankings, prestige (i.e., not necessarily driven by quality), big endowments (financial insulation), and hubris/greed have distracted many leaders from what matters and their raison d'etre. The phenomenon mainly occurs among large public and elite institutions, but some traits are shared amongst the for-profits. Conversely, the second phenomenon is happening across small, underfunded, and struggling institutions–these players focus on financial sustainability.

In my current school, we prioritise the cultivation of global citizenship and 21st century skills. Our curriculum is designed to foster intercultural understanding, empathy, and awareness of global issues among students. Additionally, we emphasise the development of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, and digital literacy skills, equipping students with the tools they need to succeed in an interconnected world. Implementing this approach requires ongoing training and support for both students and educators as they adapt to new teaching methodologies and embrace the values of global citizenship and 21st century skill development. It's an exciting journey of growth and learning for everyone involved.

Thus, we are wondering about the required educational approach that we may add to the above list. Are we merely equipping students with information and skills to navigate and shape the world, or are we prioritizing the cultivation of wisdom, enabling individuals to use these tools for positive ends?
