One of the most innovative concepts to come out recently is the concept of delta lake which is, loosely speaking, bringing in relational concepts to an unstructured data store (data lake) and more. This includes things like ACID support, ability to move forward and backward with time (through log capture) etc. And the best of all, it's open source.
