However, this role has most of the critical responsibilities which demands up to dated knowledge, a serious care about the network and good communication skills with other team members and the members of other IT teams of the organization. Also, fast and precise responding is a key required action by this role.

A network security engineer should have many thinking and designing skills. They should be able to have a map of the network security infrastructure on their mind. This role requires a good knowledge of the security standards in order to design and check the compliance of the network security design against related standards. They have to document all network infrastructure pieces and tools. So this is another ability they should present in this role.

Here's my take .... yes this role exists but it's shifting. Now the "Network Security Administrator" is doing more than just verifying .. they in many cases are having to learn Terraform so that they can apply their required configurations everywhere at scale via IaC. They're starting to shift into the territory of developers in that they need everything to be extensible, agile & modular to fit their needs. I don't know many Network folks that can just focus on the big iron devices of yesteryear & instead they've got to focus on SDWAN & other technologies that require them to have rudimentary developer skills. Just my .0001 cents worth of opine.

The most critical role among all other network security ones is this role which should have almost a basic knowledge in common with other network security roles. They have to interact with the security tools and applications. They might also be required to have cloud computing skills, if the company use any cloud solutions. This role has executive abilities. A network security administrator must be able to oversee all the security tools and application. So they should be fast and have the ability to think parallel about all the tools and applications at the same time.

They assess the client's network security needs and goals, and recommend and implement appropriate solutions. Network security roles are most of the time filled up by persons with background in networking (just the name of the area “network security” / “networking” should be enough to see that. However, the way of thinking for network security roles and for pure networking roles are different: networkers will focus on bringing from A to B, while netsec will make sure that only what is allowed can go from A to B.
