I found the Google UX Design course on Coursera to be very instrumental in honing my UX skills. . It played a key role in sharpening my UX skills by delving into fundamental principles and practical applications tailored to my design background. I always advice anyone who wants to get started in UX design to take the Google UX course on Coursera, this course will give you a solid foundation in UX design

Learn the basics of UX design. These are the important things you need to know to get off to a good start. Make real projects and show them off in your portfolio. Use different products. Learn how they are structured. Learn how it behaves. Listen to what others say about your work. See what's new in the design world. It changes often, so stay informed. Meet other designers and talk to them. Learn why you do certain things in design. You need to be able to explain this well to others. Look at problems and find creative solutions to them. Remember, it's okay to make mistakes and keep learning. Designing should be fun!

User is at the centre of UX design. Understanding users' needs, behaviours, and motivations is fundamental to creating designs that resonate with and cater to their requirements. Some ways to know the user are- *Understand User Needs: Learn how to identify and prioritize user needs through various research methods to create products or services that address these needs. *Research Planning: Gaining insights into how to plan and strategize user research initiatives, including defining research objectives, selecting appropriate methods, and creating research plans. *Conducting Research: Understanding and practicing different user research techniques such as interviews, surveys, observations, and usability testing.

User Research is an important part of the UX design process, as it provides designers with valuable insights into the needs, behaviors and preferences of their target audience. Research:- course will cover various user research methods, including interviews, surveys, observations, and testing. When conducting research, it is important to understand that you're doing the research for your user and not for yourself. Confirmation bias for example can cloud a designer's judgement and lead to a biased outcome.

Getting Inside Your Users' Heads User research is all about understanding user behaviors, needs, motivations, and pain points. It involves collecting both quantitative data and qualitative insights directly from the users. And while user research may sound academic and dry, it's actually fun and fascinating. We get to step into our users' shoes, ask them questions, and watch them interact with products and prototypes created by us(most fascinating part). Suddenly those abstract users become real people! Almost all of the development I've done, I've kept user at the center, taking feedbacks for all the features. Visual Design That Resonates (Most Interesting Part) Now that we understand users and can conduct research, it’s time to translate insights into intuitive user interfaces (UI). The user interface is the layer where visual design, branding, and usability come together. It’s the bridge allowing users to interact with functionality in an aesthetically pleasing way. In UI Design Basics, there are various visual design principles like: Color theory - What different color palettes convey emotionally Typography - How fonts influence the user experience Layouts - How to arrange elements cleanly and minimize noise Imagery - When and how to use photos, icons, and illustrations These are the key principles I keep in mind while designing.

In my opinion, prototyping one of crucial step. As a developer or designer we are already used to modern flow, also while developing or designing we have already seen same screen thousand times so the user flow is easily understandable. But in case of new user it takes some time grasp the functionality or flow, so with prototyping we can find out is our design really solving real world problem or not !

I will not recommend a Course, but rather a book. It's not a recent book, but I think is filled with lots of knowledge for anyone interested in designing interactions and prototyping solutions: Kim Goodwin - Designing for the Digital Age. I'd specially recommend the chapter on creating Scenarios. I've seen dozens of designers that took prototyping courses, but still lack the knowledge on how to put a story together through interfaces.

As you are a beginner, you don't have enough knowledge in the testing and evaluation. So you need to understand from the beginning. Ready your test cases, go to random sites or products and evaluate them. Ask from the seniors about your evaluation, get feedback and again work on them.

We've experimented with numerous tools for usability testing, and recently, maze.co has stood out as particularly valuable. Their article "A Beginner's Guide to Usability Testing," coupled with "Usability Testing 101" from the Nielsen Norman Group, equips you with the essential knowledge to conduct your initial test effectively.

I think is perfectly fine to conduct or participate in usability tests without being an expert in UX. If you run for instance a heuristic evaluation, providing that your list of heuristics and variables is well defined, you will gain a lot of insights from people who might not understand very well the UX/UI fundamentals.

Craft a portfolio that unveils the intricacies of your design process, presenting individual layers for depth or an overarching project for versatility. Clearly communicate your design thinking across principles, UI, UX, and usability, ensuring an engaging and comprehensive showcase of your skills. The only way to get hired is to showcase what you have learnt. Recruiters see 100s of portfolios everyday so you have to make yours stand out ??. Avoid making generic case studies. Learn how to tell stories, how to best present your research findings and results and you're good to go ????

This one is my favourite topic to talk about. A well crafted portfolio goes places. Think about it, if you cannot have a well-designed portfolio how can an employer or client expect you do to well-designed work for them. So spend sometime in planning and crafting your portfolio. Take it as a 'paid' project. However, do not get tangled between choosing the right platform. Choose what works for you and what you can afford to pay a monthly fee for. If you find nothing, go with Behance or similar portfolio platforms. Avoid Figma prototype based portfolios at ALL costs, they're slow, non-responsive and laggy.

Your portfolio is a representation of your skills and personality as a designer. Make it visually appealing, easy to navigate, and reflective of your passion for creating great user experiences.

There are many UX/UI courses available nowadays, both free and paid. Just keep in mind that you don’t have to take all the courses you see. First, understand the areas you need to master and where your interests lie. If you're truly interested in UX, delve into the research process, study it thoroughly, and create real case studies. This will significantly contribute to your growth as a UX designer. If your interest lies in the visual side of the process, understand UI design principles, color theory, fonts and typefaces, the grid system, etc. Master tools like Adobe XD, Figma, Sketch, Illustrator, Photoshop, and prototyping tools such as InVision and ProtoPie. Additionally, try to create something every day.

Product Purpose: - Create products for user utilization and value addition. Motivation Analysis: - Examine whether user behavior is intrinsically or extrinsically motivated. Research Tools and Methods: - Choose appropriate tools for conducting user research. - Select aspects relevant to the business problem. Observation and Learning: - Begin observing and learning about user behavior. - Inform product and service design based on user research insights.

There are many courses available for beginners to learn from scratch. But Google UX design and Principles of UX from Meta are the best for start. Because these courses provide your detail explanation with quizzes, practical task and quiz after single class and at the end of every module. So, you get a chance to learn from deep level.

My Advice? DON'T take UX courses. They will likely be AI generated, fluffed up and full of stolen information, just like these LinkedIn articles. Instead, take legitimate Business courses, Human Computer Interaction course which plays into Human Anatomy and Psychology. There are plenty of courses for free online (Harvard has a cool platform) and for the love of Humanity, at least an introduction to Ethics. What this non-UX approach will provide you with is a perspective that is holistic; ideally this will contribute to the actual world around us, rather than basic digital ideals.

One aspect I constantly emphasise is understanding the problem and most economical solution. Identifying critical path to achieve a successful user journey shall result in effective design. While doing this - don’t aim for perfection at first shot. Iterate through the options and get real feedback with implementation as early as possible. HF prototyping shall be used often during the process for validation.
