Demand and capacity are crucial factors that needs to be taken into account while rostering air Traffic Controller's. When traffic period is high a particular airspace is sectorized so more man power is required looking into demand for high traffic. Capacity of an air Traffic Controller's is not defined some can handle less traffic some can handle more traffic so this needs to be figure out.

For controllers Report duty with proper rest. Report uneasiness,if felt during course of duty, immediately. Close eyes, during intervening period,if traffic permits,to freshen up,by being off computer screen Take full rest, when gets break with no activity which tire you mentally For Management Keep roster with enough gaps between duties. Avoid overtime, particularly during watch extension. Keep stand by duty roster for emergency or medical reasons. Incidents must be assigned to other controllers.Controllers on duty should continue focus on traffic management. Rotating controllers from traffic to other tasks,to break the monotony. Ultimately, controllers shd decide whether they r fit for job, than to put everyone to risk incl them.

Air traffic controllers need to be highly vigilant while on duty because they are responsible for guiding the aircraft safely to its destination. This can get stressful at times and we must ensure that they don't get over stressed as it is a critical job. Flexibility in working duration and timings are good ways to control stress and improve performance levels. This will also help air traffic controllers work under optimum stress which will bring out their best performance. Safety of aircraft and air traffic controllers lies in flexibility and not in forcing a fixed shift pattern on them.

A Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS) is the best tool to determine Air traffic control working conditions especially Shift rotations ,working hours ,shift breaks .Critical in the rostering of Air traffic controllers is the consideration of the consequences of fatigue to the safety of aircrafts and passengers . ANSP’s should not be driven by desperation to land,take off traffic ,transit traffic through airspaces but must be driven by the hunger for safety and their focus should always be to keep the skies safe . Proper human resource planning is essential for running an effective,safe ATC service , rostering nightmares are caused by lack of proper human resource planning and succession planning among the ATC Cadre !

Training of Air Traffic Controller's are rigorous and it takes some time to be a air Traffic Controller . In India intially on job training is provided then after getting posted at airport rating of that airport is acquired .This whole process takes atleast one year. Regular refresher classes are runned to main quality and safety.

Air Traffic Controller is a team work . Various teams are there that make an aircraft safely take off and land . First of all surfaces movement Controller's control the aircraft till takes off point then tower controller take over and make aircraft airborne. Then approach controller transfer the aircraft to area controller and same procedure is repeated for making aircraft land .So all these are team work
