Eliminate the 8 wastes of manufacturing FIRST as best as you can, this will streamline your operation. Simplify your processes as much as possible as overcomplicated processes around different levels of capability can cause endless quality and performance issues. Use high quality materials and tools! This will reduce downtime, a small layout with downtime will bottleneck in no time. Map out the flow! Finally present your findings, monitor KPIs and set standards.

First of all, it is necessary mapping and eliminate wastes of the proccess, you can use tools with base on the Lean philosophy that can help you. In the production line (Lean Manufactruing) even in engineering area (Lean Design/Lean Engineering) there a lot of tools you can study and apply the standards and ideas for your necessity.

Simulation and computer aided design is not always plausible for small layouts due to cost, time and specialist skillets to compile that data. A clean area using the 5s (Kaizan) approach will allow product to flow. Every part has a place, if it's not needed then remove it.
