What are the most important considerations for planning a successful workshop for a large audience?

I get to know every new audience I speak to or deliver a workshop for by asking those who know that audience some specific questions, such as: 1. What are they struggling with in regards to the subject of the event? 2. How do you think they will feel when coming into this event? 3. What's going on at work right now? How are they reacting to work circumstances? 4. What do they fear? 5. What do they value? 6. What do they do in their spare time? Get to know the audience as people, not only as intellectual beings, but also emotional beings.

Move beyond the typical audience analysis of identifying pain points, corporate needs, or training projections. While these outcomes are commonly used to guide the design process. However, you should aim to understand the audience's personal experiences and motivations prior to attending any training especially mandatory training. Also, shifting the focus from the checklist of things to do and discuss, instead focus on the people first.

Can that individual speak to what the audience will expect out of the presentation? If not, I ask who they can connect me with who will be part of the audience who CAN give me information about what would make the topic they are asking me to present impactful to members of the audience.
