1 Assess the knowledge needs

A mistake that needs to be extremely careful about is staying at c-level. The top-level management of both companies is in agreement. What can go wrong? Well, if the main stakeholders - that is, the employees who will transfer knowledge and receive it, especially those who will use the transferred knowledge - are not involved in the process, the whole joint venture will end in a spectacular flop.

2 Establish a knowledge transfer framework

Once you have assessed the knowledge needs, you need to establish a knowledge transfer framework that defines the roles, responsibilities, processes, and tools for transferring knowledge. This framework should align with the joint venture governance structure, and specify the scope, frequency, and mode of knowledge transfer. Knowledge Transfer's success (or not) hinges on three tenets: 1. People involved 2. Duration and Frequency of knowledge being transferred 3. Short and long-term storage and management of knowledge Setup a small team that carries adequate authority (in addition to the responsibility) to define, design and execute the knowledge transfer plan both in near term and long term. Milestone reviews or Repeating reviews help keep project on track. Leverage all the tech and tools available to centralise knowledge storage. Two key parts of this tech should be 'Search' and 'Collaboration'.
