I understand what it means to work to a grid, everyone does it now and it looks so boring. Students leaving uni all have the same book... Your told to think outside the box... But then work to the squares on the screen.. c'mon!

You dont use contrast on a design!!! you adjust images with colour correction etc.. To scale is obvious ! however you adjust aspects basically.

Ive only been working for big clients now for 30 years and these questions make no real sense.......... I take it this is for newbies...

I've found helpful sometimes to do some squint test, you basically squint your eyes and look at the design that way it'll blurs the details and helps you see the overall visual hierarchy whatever stand out most when squinting should be the most prominent in your design. You could do some typography and color testing and keep watching how to experiment to emphasize key elements in your design. A/B Testing of course, to watch different variations of your design will help to compare their effectiveness. And I think print prototypes are a must, sometimes, seeing the design in its intended format can reveal insights that may not be apparent on a screen.
