Innovation comes from the ability to be free and comfortable to work. Part of our leadership goal is that all of our staff are in an a school where they can innovate. Our environment should enable staff to feel purpose, flow, and joy. That goal comes from our goal to not limit the destinations of our students but work to enhance them in every possible way. These goals are qualitative but we also want quantitative results in student placement, student employment, and student graduate school acceptances. The other qualitative piece for us is that our students feel comfortable wherever they go in whatever role. Of course that means we have to extend just the same feeling to teachers and staff, doesn't it? I think that it does.

How do we measure innovation? What are we doing that is successful that nobody else in the industry is? How do we evolve past what everyone else does? Our school is purposefully not out of bounds of our capacity to observe, so we can do both naturalistic observation and case studies, which give us depth while we maintain our ability to observe outwards and compare.

After collecting the data, it is important to analyze and interpret it in a way that answers your questions and supports your decisions. This involves identifying the patterns, trends, gaps, and insights that emerge from the data and relating them to your goals and indicators. Various techniques and tools can be used for this purpose, such as descriptive statistics for summarizing and presenting the basic features of the data, inferential statistics for testing hypotheses and drawing conclusions about the data, and qualitative analysis for exploring the meanings, themes, and narratives of the data. These can be calculated manually or with software, displayed in tables, charts, graphs, or infographics, reported in numerical or verbal terms with confidence intervals and significance levels, or presented in quotes, summaries, or diagrams.

Sometimes it works best to just ask. You can get quite far when you give your staff the ability to discuss their own data. If people are comfortable with discussion of the data they are more comfortable with strategies to move forward from it.

The final step is to communicate and act on the results of your measurement in order to share your findings, celebrate your achievements, and improve your areas of improvement. This requires creating and delivering a report or presentation that highlights the main points, implications, and recommendations of your measurement. Engage your audience with clear, concise, and compelling messages. Additionally, plan and implement actions that will help you sustain or enhance your innovative teaching strategies, and monitor and evaluate their impact and effectiveness. To communicate and act on the results, you can use strategies such as reports and presentations, feedback and dialogue, action plans and follow-ups. Reports should follow a logical structure such as introduction, background, methods, results, discussion, conclusion, and recommendations. Feedback should be respectful, constructive, and supportive. Action plans should be realistic, flexible, and adaptable with regular reviews and revisions.

You do not have to tell your staff that they're innovative and astounding with a report. You should be looking outwards to see what the rest of your competitors are doing. When a teacher innovates or excels, let them know with examples so that they can understand just how well they do.
