JIT is indeed an effective cost cutting strategy, for most effective cost cutting strategy it is essential to have: ?Thorough planning based on last 3 years sales analysis considering seasonal & price impact, marketing activities done in these periods, shortage of stock due to any issue, financial & HR impacts. ?Accurate demand planning ?Control wastages ?In-time execution of sales plan ?In-time availability of Raw Material & Packing Material ?Finished Stock Availability to timely execute Order ?No Delay in supplies.

Stay up to date on the industry trends. Observe and process the information for the desire result. As you are awake of the industry trends you will always know about demand and you will be able to produce supply.

We can use all the statistical methods to get the forecast. But the forecast will still be a forecast and it is always wrong. The periodic reviews and the agility to do the correction are the keys. To do so, we need to know the strengths and weaknesses of our Supply Chain and strategic partners, be it internally and externally.

Communicating quantities early on may lead the supplier to think that this is fixed, therefore he relies on it. But when managing your Supply Chain, you should always have several options on your table and decide from project to project about who is the right supplier. Certainly it is important to align your Supply Chain, but besides all data - be present. A client that is visiting factories, taking their time to negotiate terms and prices in person, is valued much higher and considered as a more important client, even they're currently dealing a smaller purchase volume.

Understand your suppliers. What is their capacity? Can they store your inventory? Are you providing them with enough business that they can make accommodations for you? How often do you meet with your suppliers whether it is in person or through the internet? How often do you pull in/push out? Who supplies your suppliers. A huge part of aligning your supply chain is based on communication & being a good customer. Get information to your suppliers as fast as possible to make changes when needed, especially if they are overseas. Understand their communities & culture. Is your deadline during their holiday? Have you planned for their downtime? Communicate, audit, plan, stock, collaborate, invest, & own the situation to ensure JIT service.

On the basis of demand in market we should plan our production, it will save our working capital, optimum utilisation of Inventory.

I worked Japanese companies for 20 years all using lean and JIT. If money is invested correctly and you have the right people it is flawless. If it isn’t done right it can be a disaster. You need the right forecast, analytical planning, low turnover, high quality workers and a great quality and engineering dept.

Minimum Inventory Levels: Keep inventory levels as low as possible without risking production disruptions. Determine the minimum stock levels for each component or raw material.

While Kanban, Kaizen and 5S are certainly a good way to reduce waste and create a more efficient production system, they are not a one-size-fits-all solution. Buffer Inventory, Forecast on Demand, a wider network of suppliers - all of these and even more things can be implemented to upgrade the Supply Chain in general. There is not one or two things that make everything better, but certainly Kanban, Kaizen and 5S are all off to a great start, while fine-tuning later on seems neccessary.

A transition into a Kanban System for your raw materials is no easy feat, especially if you have large amounts of SKUs incorporated in your products. A simple method that quickly helps identify issues with your raw materials demand plan, or vendor shortcomings, is to incorporate ordering information (PO date, quantity, receival date, and receival quantity). This allows for quick identification of any adjustments that you can make to your Kanban (minimum) quantities or your reorder quantities to optimize you inventory based on not only your demand, but vendor lead times as well.

Two things to help with this process is to absolutely understand how lean principles works. If that means you have to collect data, review, find ways to store data for multiple collaboration efforts with a team. Finding a solution isn't always easy the biggest thing I've realized with lean principles is you may go through multiple testing periods to find the best way to cut time and costs.

Inventory management is risk management. Use technology to do things that humans cannot such as identifying the exact amount of inventory that balances stock out risks against inventory excess risks. Then humans can spend time doing the things that only humans can do - like setting the overall strategy.

Safety Stock: Maintain a small amount of safety stock for critical components or materials to handle unexpected fluctuations in demand or supply disruptions. Continuous Improvement: Continuously analyze your production processes for inefficiencies and bottlenecks. Implement Lean manufacturing principles to eliminate waste.

Technology has to be used all the time anyways. There are tons of tools and solutions out there to help making our daily life easier, reducing human error and so on. But while all technology seems tempting, we cannot forget about the costs of implementation for any of those. Depending on company size some of them are simply out of range. As many companies already have loads of tools to support their business, it is also crucial that the new software can be integrated in current processes. Last but not least; it is important to make sure that the technology that is about to be implemented is not only working for the current state, but also for the future - it has to be able to adapt to future needs.

Implementation of 2-BIN and CCC ( Constant Quantity , Constant Location, Constant Container) concept will add more visibility to Inventory Levels and reduce Manmade Error and trigger the order effectively.

Inventory Management is "behind-the-scenes" and doesn't get the attention like Sales or Marketing; but this doesn't reduce the need for it. There are so many tools and software that can help make our life easier, but in the end it's a individual solution and can't work for everyone at the same time. Pros :- Waste Reduction, Improved efficiency, Higher inventory turnover ratio, Fewer defictive products, Small delivery quantity, Great productivity, Labour cost reduction, Higher Quality products. Cons :- Supply chain disruption risk , Unexpected cost change, Time pressure, Dependency on supplier, Forecasting flaws.
