Something I find very effective; it's not my strategy, but I adopted it. It's called the "Feedback Loop". As you proceed through your orientation, stop and ask a random participant to tell you what "they" heard. this will allow them to speak what they translated your message into for their digestion. You can then ask others if they heard something different. It keeps everyone engaged and allows you to stop and clarify the true meaning until it is unanimously understood.
