Meetings and group discussions are essential for collaboration and teamwork, but they can also be challenging to facilitate effectively. In addition to setting clear objectives, the agenda and all the preparation before the meeting, what I think works very well is defining roles and responsibilities for all participants and having a meeting facilitator. This has proved very effective in projects I've been involved in. Facilitation is about helping the group to do efficient and meaningful work. It's about ensuring that everyone in the room is heard and that there is a actionable outcome every time a group comes together.
People jump into tactics, problems, and solutions. But if you think about it, the only way to figure out whether one thing is more important than another is to have a way to prioritize. And the way to prioritize is to compare the options against a certain set of criteria. But most importantly, you need to compare it to a goal. If the goal is not right, or is ambiguous, then the whole endeavor is destined to fail. I've been through meetings where I assumed the goal was clear and I was going to move on to teach other tactics, but I had to stop. Why? Because it turned out that only the founders were clear on the goals; nobody else understood the goals. We then proceeded to ask questions from first principles to clearly articulate the goal.

For example, you can ask them to respect each other's opinions, listen actively, avoid interruptions, and use constructive feedback. You can also assign roles such as facilitator, recorder, timekeeper, or presenter to different participants, and rotate them as needed. People process information in different ways and at different speeds. I like to use multiple tools so that people’s “voices” are heard, regardless of how loud they speak. Individual brainstorming. Pairing up or small breakouts. Hands-on work if appropriate.
When using engaging and interactive methods, always keep the goal in mind. Don't use it for the sake of using it, but rather if it makes sense and will really help the team achieve the expected result.

Provide feedback and summary is very important. Just as at the beginning we set the objectives and agenda, at the end we need this closure and if possible to start building this from the beginning. That's why roles and responsibilities are important, because they will help capture the important points that should be part of the final summary.
