I am surprised at companies that contact me for emails, phone numbers and more sensitive information while pretending to conduct a survey. It should be constructed after all the ethical considerations of the respondents. So, the questionnaire should be fit for your objectives rather than deviating.

Other effective and efficient ways of collecting and storing your data is through "Anonymous and Confidential Responses": Provide options (wherever applicable) for respondents to submit responses anonymously. Assure respondents that their answers will be kept confidential. Communicate the privacy measures you've implemented in the questionnaire.

Only collect the data necessary for your research goals. Avoid asking for personally identifiable information (PII) unless absolutely essential. Give respondents the option to participate anonymously or pseudonymously. This means not collecting any PII or using unique identifiers that could link responses to individuals. Avoid ambiguous questions or leading language that could influence responses. Be transparent about how data will be used and stored.

The data doesn't lie - and neither should the person reviewing the data. In this day and age, if you make false or misleading claims or conclusions you'll likely not get away with it. I do recommend companies that write press releases with survey findings stop taking liberties with changing a word here and there to maximize the PR & marketing benefits. Changing the words also changes the question which can change the result - leading to not very honest headlines in press releases.

These laws can mean that data has to be stored in the country it comes from. Because these laws aren’t the same everywhere, you might need different plans for different places.

Speak with any reputable cybersecurity expert and they'll tell you there are data incidents with their clients every day! Data security is critical to maintain all your client data is secured and monitored. Your IT team needs to ensure the data is secure and be willing to switch to new and improved offerings very quickly if needed. As for the regulations, I am a strong proponent for more regulations with increased consequences for leaked survey/research data. Privacy of tour respondents should be top of mind all the time.

On the business front, you might have a client requesting a deep review of your security features in great detail. This has occurred with two clients of ours in the IT space. If your capabilities are not current you will lose that potential business.

Any tool you use is a direct reflection on you, your company and your brand. It needs to be capable of conducting a significant amount of work while maintaining security and ethical and legal standards.
