What are the most effective ways to engage minority and low-income communities in highway design?

The first process would be to identify the area and get in touch with the local community/leaders/authorities, appoint a community representative and include them during stakeholders meetings. That way construction managers can create a healthy and transparent communication regarding any issues/concerns that may arise during the construction phase whilst also providing opportunities for local hire, that way imparting a sense of ownership thus limiting disputes through out the span of the project.

I strongly believe in initiating an open dialogue with communities, where we transparently communicate the project's objectives, anticipated impacts, and sincerely listen to their concerns. It is crucial to provide clear and accessible information about the project, detailing its various phases and potential benefits to foster understanding and collaboration

Working with minority groups reminds me of my years in Nigeria. Indeed, we successfully implemented a local content program that aimed to benefit the local minorities through our projects.
