Here are key ways to demonstrate leadership when delivering software as a product or project manager: - Responsiveness to change. Provide value by being responsive to change to produce working software that meet the clients' needs. - Time, materials and deliverables without a detailed design is the reality of projects. If a customer wants the implementation to look differently to signed contract, good leadership is practicing collaboration rather than contract negotiation. - Useful working software of unarticulated requirements to be prioritised. No need to have documentation, tools and processes if the software isn't working. However, agile causes technical debt. Watch out for low maintainability, delivery delay and rework.

Being humble while sharing your expertise is an investment in your personality development. Always appreciate and acknowledge the current team (senior management and support team) and in case it seems futile, convey that you will take good lessons learnt from them. During a company-wide (government-required) transformation, I dealt with some tough senior stakeholders who had a powerful influence on the project team and controlled the organization's culture. I leveraged that influence to expedite decisions while realizing benefits and ensuring that due credit was given to them. While I pushed my team towards professional growth as they did the heavy lifting, in due course their market value increased, propelling their careers upwards.
