Walk in the customer's shoes throughout the demo as best as you can. Research, study, and hunt for info before you get on the call. You will not be able to research everything, it's important to ask discovery questions before you start your demo so that you can cater the demo based on the person's specific pain points and role.

A successful demo starts with an agenda. Outline the key points you’ll cover and how they address their goals. Set expectations upfront. Structure brings clarity. I like to open with "Here's what we'll accomplish together in the next 45 minutes." Then preview the agenda - your solution highlights, demo, Q&A. This provides a framework for the conversation and keeps everyone focused. The best agendas collaborate with the prospect. Ask what they want to see, what problems they want solved. Make it about them, not you. An agenda shows you respect their time and need for ROI. It's your plan together to maximize the value of your demo. With a clear agenda guiding the way, you'll stay on track to deliver an impactful demo.

Ideally the agenda has been set before the meeting both verbally and in writing. It is a good practise to make sure everyone's expectations for the meeting are aligned before going into the demo

Sharing a personal story of how you or others have used the product is a great sales tactic. "I've been in X industry for 5 years and used to be on your side of the business..our product helped address X pain points when we were in your shoes" This allows you to relate to the prospect on an emotional level and can also help soften the demo and keep it light.

Storytelling in SaaS product demonstrations is one of the best ways to engage potential clients and help them understand the value of the product in a relatable way. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Zoom frequently shared stories of companies that successfully transitioned to remote work using their tool. They highlighted how businesses maintained productivity and team cohesion through Zoom, thus illustrating the software’s value in a newly remote-working world.

A compelling demo tells a story. Start with their pain points - where are they struggling? Then reveal your solution as the hero. Take them on the journey from challenge to resolution. Let the story unfold naturally through an example case study. “Let me walk you through how we helped Company X...” Give real names, numbers, quotes. Let the audience visualize themselves in the story. The most persuasive stories speak to emotions. Appeal to their desires - save time, reduce costs, grow revenue. Show don’t tell. Make them feel the before and after. Engage their imagination so your solution sticks. At the end, summarize the key takeaways they’ll remember. Tell a story of how their every day life would be different after implementing the product. Depending on stakeholders the focus should be also a lot in ROI. First get a buy in that yes - this helps me in my everyday life and then pivot to ROI. The biggest mistake is to force through a full demo and present everything in the product as then you are simply delaying the deal. Focus on the key features for the prospect. Not everything

Show a demo and customize it for your prospects as much as possible to keep them engaged and impressed. Make sure you are demoing relevant workflows after learning more about your prospect's problems. Weave those problems into a custom demo when possible.

Either show with little talk, talk with little showing, or use a video, or a piece of text and remain silent. It is also about what works for you and the ability to read your audience

I believe a demo is the most effective way to showcase the value of your product. Make sure you're showing your prospects how your product can help make their lives better/grow their business. Highlight features you know they'd like to see that would resonate with them and their business. Engage with them. Keep it interactive. Ask for feedback throughout the presentation. Ask if there's anything in particular they'd like to see. By the end of the demo, your prospect should feel like they want to start using your product ASAP.

A demo shouldn't be a one-way info dump. Make it a two-way conversation. Actively engage your audience. Make them collaborators, not just spectators. Ask questions to uncover needs. Keep the demo interactive and ask questions throughout to engage the audience. If on a screen share or Zoom, make sure to keep an eye on the audience's reactions and read the room. If people are falling asleep, or ready to move on make sure to add some energy or change topics.

Sending a follow-up email right after the demo with the presentation deck or more formal pricing info is mandatory. However, the best follow-up is locking in a second call while on the first. If you can get a guaranteed time to reconvene you are more likely to convert the sale.

The best follow up should ideally include a trial account to your SaaS product. Creating a client for the prospect and letting them and their employees, play around with it. Set the expectations clearly and also the bounaries and restrictions of a trial account. The best way is to catch them wanting more. If possible monitor the usage stats closely to see how they are using it and if you could help them use those features better with another round of demo etc.

Follow up wins the deal. With proper expectation management, clear action items, crystal clear sales process and a good ROI the chances to win the deal skyrocket!
